The Jones Family Singers, consisting in part of five sisters, two brothers and their father, have been tearing up churches and festivals for almost three decades. This sensational gospel band’s awe inspiring stage show is contagious and thrilling; a full on emotional explosion of passion and precision.  Straight out of the Mt. Zion Pentecostal Holiness Church in the tiny town of Markham, Texas, this powerful family showcases a dynamic and timeless range of material and repertoire paired with vocal virtuosity and musicianship that holds its own with the top acts on the touring circuit today.

“Modern practitioners of a long musical tradition…infusing their joyful, reverent songs with elements of vintage soul and R&B” declares the Wall Street Journal. “The three-generation gospel collective’s high-energy performances are the living embodiment of the indelible connection between the black church and its rock and soul offspring” notes the Austin Chronicle. “It was all joyful praise, brilliantly timed with one crescendo after another” boasts the New York Times, and both Rolling Stone and NPR called them “a must see act” at SXSW.

Prohibition – Musical Comedy About the War on Booze

Saturday, October 14, 2017
5:30pm-6:30pm VIP Reception ($50)
7pm Showtime ($25)
Historic Casino Hall

Set in 1917, “Prohibition: A Musical Comedy about the War on Booze” draws its material from true accounts to reconstruct, with a humorous tone, the fight between the so-called Drys and Wets over the demon liquid purportedly destroying civilized society. Prohibition — the nationwide constitutional ban of alcohol from 1920 to 1933, had its supporters and opponents.

The prohibitionists were allied with a lot of unexpected people: suffragettes and prison reformers.  But they had opposition. A lot of Texas’ German population didn’t support the ban because they were brewers. There were a lot of violent protests and ugliness that happened, and somehow this professional artistic ensemble called Texas Comedies made these historic events into a fun musical.

As with “Bonnie & Clyde” and other Texas Comedies productions, the heavy subject matter gets levity. For one thing, there’s music, and it’s performed by a live band along with a dream sequence complete with flappers and gangsters.

Tickets are available online and at the La Grange Visitors Center located inside the Historic Casino Hall.

Community Theatre – Steel Magnolias

Performance Dates:  November 3 & 4, 2017 @ 7pm, November 5, 2017 @ 3pm
Historic Casino Hall – 254 N. Jefferson Street, La Grange

Fayette County Community Theatre Presents: Steel Magnolias.
THE STORY: This classic play is set in Truvy’s beauty salon in Chinquapin, Louisiana, where all the ladies who are “anybody” come to have their hair done. Helped by her eager new assistant, Annelle (who is not sure whether or not she is still married), the outspoken, wise-cracking Truvy dispenses shampoos and free advice to the town’s rich curmudgeon, Ouiser, (“I’m not crazy, I’ve just been in a bad mood for forty years”); an eccentric millionaire, Miss Clairee, who has a raging sweet tooth; and the local social leader, M’Lynn, whose daughter, Shelby (the prettiest girl in town), is about to marry a “good ole boy.”

The play moves through tragedy with the sudden realization of how one’s own mortality can affects the others, the ladies also draw on their underlying strength—and love—which give the play, and its characters, the special quality to make them truly touching, funny and marvelously amiable company in good times and bad.

Tickets can be purchased online or at the La Grange Visitors Bureau located in the Historic Casino Hall, 254 N. Jefferson Street.
